1. Who we are

MzansiSteals (“we”, “us”) operates this community deals website at mzansisteals.co.za. For the purposes of POPIA, we are the responsible party for the personal information described below. You can reach us at any time through our contact form.

2. What personal information we collect

• Email address — collected when you create an account, used to sign you in and to send account-related messages.
• Username — chosen by you and shown publicly next to your deals and comments.
• Profile picture and bio — optional, and shown publicly on your profile if you add them.
• Votes — the deals you vote hot or cold on, linked to your account so you can only vote once per deal.
• Comments and posted deals — the content you submit, which is displayed publicly with your username.
• Deal alerts — keywords and preferences you save so we can notify you about matching deals.
• Technical data — essential cookies needed to keep you signed in, and standard server logs.

We do notcollect payment card details — purchases happen on the retailer's own website, not here.

3. Why we collect it

We use this information only to run the service: to create and secure your account, to display community content (deals, votes, comments) with attribution, to send you the notifications you have asked for, to prevent abuse and spam, and to moderate content. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Who processes and stores it

Our database, authentication, and file storage are provided by Supabase, and our website is hosted by Vercel. These providers act as our operators (processors) and store data on secure servers on our behalf, which may be located outside South Africa. Both providers maintain industry-standard security safeguards. If you sign in with Google, Google shares only your email address and basic profile details with us to create your account.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information, except where we are required to keep something to comply with a legal obligation.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• ask what personal information we hold about you;
• ask us to correct information that is wrong;
• ask us to delete your information (see below);
• object to us processing your information; and
• lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe we have not handled your information properly.

7. Account changes and deletion

You can update your username, profile picture, and bio at any time from your profile settings. To request changes we can't offer in settings, or to have your account and personal information deleted, please submit a request through our contact form and choose “Account changes” or “Account deletion” as the query type. We action reasonable requests within a reasonable period. Comments or deals you posted may be removed or anonymised as part of deletion.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as your theme. We do not use these cookies to track you across other websites.

9. Children

This site is not intended for children under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
